Charleston is known for its picturesque beaches, a charming downtown scene, and delicious cuisine. It’s no surprise that Charleston is a coveted destination for couples all over the globe to tie the knot. The unique, old-world charm of Charleston naturally lends itself to tender celebrations and lingering vows. With so many coming from far away to say “I do” in beautiful Charleston, a little bit of insider advice on where to go is invaluable! So from me to you, let’s dive into the best places to elope in Charleston.
First and foremost, there’s the popular White Point Garden located on the historic Battery. You’ll be greeted by a soft sea breeze and ocean view that’s sure to make any couple swoon. With the beach easily accessible and just a short walk away from Rainbow Row, not to mention the way the soft morning light of sunrise or warm evening glow of golden hour filters through the trees, the photo opportunities are seemingly endless. The storybook gazebo right in the middle of the park easily fits 25 guests, making it no surprise that White Point Garden is hands down one of the best places to elope in Charleston.
Pro tip: Avoid this location in the late spring and summer as it’s understandably a downtown Charleston tourist favorite. Consider a sunrise ceremony where you’re sure to have a little more privacy if your heart is set on a summer wedding. You can apply here for a permit, but keep in mind that events are limited to 25 people- including the bride and groom.
Next, if you’re looking for a low maintenance option without compromising beauty, Folly beach may be your answer. With a laid back atmosphere, this locale is perfect for an easygoing bride and groom! As long as the event is under 25 guests you will not need a permit. The guidelines are very minimal, but be sure to check with the beach’s event rules to make sure your day will run smoothly. This area is known for its great night life. This gives you endless local wine and dine options to celebrate your new marriage!
Lastly, no elopement list would be complete without Hampton Park! With a dizzyingly beautiful display of magnolia trees, peppermint peach trees, and azaleas, this venue is an absolute paradise in the spring! Luckily, it’s also a bit of a hidden gem. The historic park is breathtakingly beautiful yet outside of the normal tourist’s travels. There’s no doubt Hampton Park is one of the best places to elope in Charleston. As a bonus, it’s located right next to the citadel where the picturesque Summerall Chapel is tucked away, making it an absolute dream for couples looking to marry in a church but dreaming about those fairytale outdoor photos!
Finding the perfect fit is up to you now that you have the inside scoop! Luckily, with Charleston’s charming history and breathtaking beauty, hopeful elopers really can’t go wrong with any of these three options. Whether you end up tying the knot in the magical gazebo of White Point Garden, with your dress trailing in the sand at Folly Beach, or surrounded by the colorful wonderland of Hampton Park, your Charleston elopement is sure to be a day to remember.
